45: Kentucky Fried Movie

In this episode of Geek Cinema Society, Brett Stewart, Nicole Davis, David Luzader, and their guest, Jackie Hern, delve into 1977’s ‘Kentucky Fried Movie.’

This episode, we feature the return of Jackie Hern, who guests with Brett, David, and Nicole in their first encounter with the team of Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker. ZAZ honed their skills together in university comedy theater, and took advantage of how sketch comedy was taking off with the advent of Saturday Night Live. Their frenetic style inspired a generation of vulgar but funny filmmakers. Future movies borrowed the idea of cramming in as many jokes as possible in a short time frame, but always with an over-arching narrative. Every parody film made since 1977 pretty much owes its existence to Kentucky Fried Movie.

For listeners who would like to follow along and treat Geek Cinema Society as a film club of sorts, we will be watching ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ next! Following that, we’ll be watching ‘Judge Dredd.’
